Firstly I make no apology in the usage of the title, taken from a superb documentary of life in Botswana.

Hyenas pups are cute, but when they become adults they take on a far more sinister POV. However, they also play a very important role within the animal kingdom, the disposal of many, if not all of animal deaths by consuming not only the remnants of the left overs, but also the bones.

Not the greatest of images with some distracting elements, but it was the facial characteristic I liked here.

Thanks to those who viewed or commented on the previous posting.

I love the snarl. The distracting elements are not that distracting to me as the snarl would scare the heck out of me! Nicely done.

'The distracting elements are not that distracting to me.'

Thanks Ed, well I knocked some of the distracting elements back in PP, so may be I just am thinking of how it 'was' so to speak.

They are very inquisitive animals and I have had 'very close' encounters with them, ie whilst on the ground sniffing my boots, but I still would not like to be on the receiving end of their jaws.

cheers
Steve

A face full of character and nicely captured, Steve. They play an important part, don't have an easy life, and get my respect!

'They play an important part, don't have an easy life,'

Indeed Carol, and this is where folk need to understand about our Wildlife and the very important role each plays.

Before I read your text and the comments, my first impression was that the grasses above the brow, the eye, the corner of the mouth and ear were distracting. I know we can’t always get what we want, so the overall image still conveys “power” in the jaws and an eye intensely focused on something.

I'm impressed by the teeth-so big and so yellow. It's odd how we characterize some animals as "evil"- the wolf and hyena. Vultures...etc. They all play such an important role on the cycle of nature. Oddly, they pose very little or no threat to humans. Excellent portrait, despite a few spotty distractions.
