Young hyena with what’s left of what I’m guessing is a steenbok.

I remember coming across a zebra killed by lions, when they had taken their fill the clean up squad moved in. The next morning all we could find was one little hoof. There is certainly nothing wasted in the fight for survival. There is still food in bones and hide, as this hyena knows. Looks like you had some interesting sightings on your trip!

Great trip as usual. Hyenas and leopards are some of my favorite subjects. Love watching them for hours

I know what you mean, I can get so absorbed just watching that I forget I've got a camera......

Pretty graphic representation- sure tells the story. I like Carol's comments on this too.

I think you handled the harsh light quite well here Fincher given by the heat haze in the BKG and dark shadows in the face, but I do find the image a bit too 'saturated', albeit the soil can be quite red. Framing works, but again, I would like more space for the Hyena to walk into. Hyena's are always great to photograph and ever the optimist, constantly harrying both Lions & Leopards. Perhaps not the most prettiest of subjects and often very smelly, well not as bad as Wild Dogs, but they do perform an integral role. Overall I do like the content as it illustrates  what they do.

Interesting behavioral image. Nice implied action with the raised foot and great eye contact. Nicely composed.
