Minke are small whales that are notoriously difficult to see.  At best you get a glimpse of the dorsal fin as it disappears.  We were lucky when zodiac cruising, we spotted one that didn't vanish as we motored in its direction.  We stopped at a good distance, and to our great surprise it decided to come over and investigate us.  The whale is no more than 1 meter from the zodiac here, would love to have more space below it but there was none.  I was lucky to be standing in the right spot with the right gear in hand as the approach happened within seconds and then it was gone.  The shot 4 frames later I have part of the zodiac in the image and the fin is within 20cm or so from the boat.

Remarkable image, Cindy. You are to be commended for being at the right place at the right time. But your talent as a photographer played an equally important role. Large view is a treat and reveals nice detail. Well done!

Very dreamy and surreal! The only thing I would recommend is to remove the white spot to the right of the fin.

Wow, I really love this. I never thought that an above water picture of a whale totally submerged could be so compelling.

A striking shot and wonderful to see this beautiful whale so close. I like how it blends with the gentle ripples. Must have been a thrilling experience.

Good to see you around again.  I was hoping you might have some wildlife to post after your trips!  I love the surreal quality of this image, it would make a great wall hanging print - certainly make a talking point.  Nice one, Cindy!  :)
