These deer are quite different from the Red deer I normally seek.  Very, very skittish.  Generally, in the day they lay up and ruminate.  Guaranteed to walk away when I am spotted.  Taken in the spring, with showers.  Pretty well sure I was spotted when stalking but the approach I use and time taken seems to be accepted and not disturbs them.

Generally, when they are hunkered down, they are problematic to find.  In the past, I've been 20 feet away and passed them by, and the only method I have found to work is walk so slowly and watch for any movement such as ear flicks, that cracks the ID of them.,

Sweet young fallow buck hunkered down on a damp spring day, and it looks like he's shedding his winter coat to get ready for summer. A nice find and lovely shot, Dave.

I've never seen this type of deer before, They must be hard to find. Nice work on getting such a close and nice shot of this interesting creature.

Dave, again you are to be commended on your stealthy approach and ability to capture a portrait of this skittish deer while hunkered down. You are a master at this technique.

Terrific capture Dave- your work is so wonderful-I love the respect you show for these animals and the results are always so intimate yet undisturbed.
