Taken last February.  Was struck by the pair of tines that had obviously broken in the rut, and how they had "healed".  Wasn't too bothered by my approach, so used the angle to line up the bg branches which mirror the tines.

Techs.  D850.  1/100 F8 Iso 1000 on the Sigma Sport OS at 600.

Sort of get the feeling of disdain, that we humans are tolerated and don't matter.  Thinking of this dudes agenda, I sort of get that.

Please feel free to view uncompressed.  Thanks for your time and thoughts.

My first thought when I viewed the image (before reading your narrative) was that I loved how the tree branches in the background mimic the shape of the antlers on this stag. The light and pose, of course, are excellent. Another great addition to this wonderful series, Dave.

David, this is a very cool portrait... I too like the way the antlers parallel the tree to the left.

regards,

I agree that the tree in the background goes really well with the antlers. Great light, too!

Its all been said, Dave, and I agree that the tines and lines complement each other beautifully, while the sweet light is the icing on the cake. The detail in that eye is excellent, and he is definitely sizing you up as he enjoys his down time. Lovely image.

+1- Such a fine idea to echo the antlers in the branches. Another beauty!
