Mara Lioness.  Late afternoon light.  D3 300 f2.8 II   1/3200 F4 Iso 400.  She was looking back at the rest of the group.  At this time they were calling quite frequently, summoning the group.  (at one time I was hoping there were cubs about but my Lion speak wasn't up to scratch...  just calling the other females a bit back below the bank and river).   :)

A beautifully composed portrait, Dave. Love the fine detail and the warm sidelight. An incredible shot you captured of this rugged lioness. :)

An almost wistful pose from this lioness, Dave. A beautifully detailed study, and the sidelight adds a lot to the overall mood of the image.

Carol.
I see that "wistful" look too- a lovely expression. Agree with Carol- the strong contrasts enhance the mood.

Great portrait, I like the pose and the sidelight works well.
