In September 2001, just after 9/11, I went to Yellowstone. There is a dirt road that goes up behind the Mammoth Hotel and ends up in Gardiner, MT. This buck and two does were on the plateau just above the hotel. He was so cooperative that, when I ran out of film, he just layed here while I went to the truck to get more and returned to shoot again. I took a shot of him from the truck with my other camera while he was laying here next to my tripod. He was probably about 20 yards away. This is one of my favorite memories of that trip.
Nikon F5, lens, film, exposure data not recalled, scanned on flatbed scanner.
All C&C welcome.

A fine portrait, Joe! I agree with Dave, memories are priceless. Its not always the image we get but what memories are associated with a particular shot, and unlocked each time we revisit it!

Lovely story-how wonderful to be able to revive the photo with a scan and re-live the experience. He looks very serene-unlike the state of the world after 9/11. Must have been reassuring, perhaps......

I really like the close-up nature of this. I think cropping this off the top to a 4x3 ratio would make it even better but then I'm partial to 4x3 and 5x4 :)

I really love Pron Horns. This image is excellent and does the species justice. They do seem so docile and tolerant. I like the tight portrait.
