Going Nuts

Nothing major. Out walking in the woods yesterday and spotted this Squirrel. Funny thing, non baited, pure wild and I just don't recognise the nut it's feeding on. Queer thing being I feel it's a walnut, but it's probably about a mile from the nearest human habitat and I was in deep woodland.

D500 and the Sigma Sport at 600. 1/160 F8 at Iso 1000. monopod and OS on.

Definitely a walnut, Dave. How do you know there isn't an odd walnut tree somewhere in those woods.........and I wouldn't be surprised if a squirrel foraged up to a mile or so especially if it knows the whereabouts of one of their (and mine) favourite nuts.

This bright eyed subject looks well fed and they're certainly intelligent. Very nice shot with sweet detail and the light filtering through the trees.

Fun shot- love the way the squirrel looks like it's about to take a bite. You did a great job pulling this squirrel out of the dark surrounds.

Thanks all for your thoughts. always appreciated... They are a good place to be in...

You'll laugh at this.. day off routined is up early.. 45 min run. Take son to college. Get the weeks shopping...(pre-ordered..lol). pop off over to the woods as soon as I can. Normally looking for Goldcrests, some Greater spotted woodpecker, long tailed tits, etc.... have been lucky, to see the odd Buzzard and Red Kite but mainly just being there to enjoy any activity.

Normally ignore Greys Squirrels and just watch but it caught my attention with the walnut....
