This mother was continually checking the wind as well as looking in all directions. A big male if close enough would try and kill the cub. The two hung around for an hour before moving down the coast. Ten years of photographing these beautiful creatures, something like this is getting harder and harder to see.

An interesting narrative and excellent image of mother and cub, Michael. I really like the composition.

Perfect dof for this sow and cub, Michael. Beautiful detail when you click on the image for the uncompressed view, and a good perspective with their bodies at complementary angles and both faces nicely visible. I like your composition with the wider view giving a real feel for their somewhat bleak habitat, and who knows what the future holds for these magnificent animals. An evocative image.

Beautiful capture Michael, I like the way the low point of view renders the rocky shoreline. I can sense their concern in the body language, they are stressed.

This is beautifully composed and tells the story so well- absolutely lovely...and perhaps a little sad, as we know he fate of polar bears is so uncertain.
