This is an old image from my first DSLR the Canon 10 d and the 100-400 version 1.  I have been playing with AI Gigapixel and decided to revisit some of the brown bear images made on my first photo trip.  We went to Hallo Bay, Katmai NP, Alaska in 2004.  This is a vertical image, cropped from horizontal.  The originally process image was pretty good, but compared to today's tech misses the mark by a bit.  I decided to reprocess from scratch. Back then I had no idea what a RAW file was so this is from a high rez Jpeg.

I asked AI Gigapixel to do a 400% enlargement on the original just about 3000 pixel file to create just over 12,000 pixels.  i then did the usual processing I do today using today's tools.

I must say, I am impressed.  That old 6 mp APSC file became a 24 MP APSC file and produced, to my eye a wonderful image at native resolution about 40 inches Horizontal at 300 ppi from which this image was created!  The compressed image here does not do the new original file justice.

Very nice, Ed. I have been thinking about trying the AI software. This just made up my mind to do so.

Ed a wonderful capture of this bear. The detail is amazing, and the raised paw is the perfect finishing touch. Great news about Topaz AI Gigapixel.

A click to bring up the uncompressed view shows just what a stunning image this is, Ed! Top quality with amazing detail and well worth the reprocessing.

To say you're impressed must be an understatement. This is superb!

Thank you so much for recognizing this image as an EP. Here's the story. We were headed back to camp on a gravel beach; the bear, known to the guides as Crusher, was walking along the beach in the opposite direction heading toward the salmon river. As he got closer I laid down in a prone position and began shooting. When the bear got close enough to hear my shutter click he looked right at me. I then snapped this image. An experience I will never forget. Thanks again for recognizing Crusher.

Great quality and well worth reprocessing. I am curious to know how well noise reduction (in high ISO images) works with a Topaz AI Gigapixel enlarged file.

Paul, I also ran AI Clear on this image after resizing. I processed the resized image in Lightroom (including the crop to vertical from horizontal), sent to PS ran AI Clear then sharpened with PK Sharpener.  More and more I am becoming an advocate of Topaz AI products.  No, I do not have any commercial interest in Topaz.

Ed,
This is a "Whoa!" image, love the angle, the look, the bg separation and the clarity is just insane.
