Interesting behavioral image. Good job on the exposure with good detail in the blacks and highlight control on the white bark.

A classic but maybe a white bark pine which many animals depend on but the species is going extinct.

The aperture f/9 served you well — great depth-of-field, particularly with the foreground pine needles. I like how the bear is looking you over.

Actually those look like Limber Pine cones, not Whitebark, which while growing on the tree are purple and spherical - nice photo!

Mike,
You're correct on the white-bark pine.  I was thinking grizzlies and bristlecones and not paying attention to the specifics.  This area has more than 50% of the white-bark pines either dead or dying.
