Celebrating World Lion Day- "Saving the King of beasts to save ourselves" https://www.worldlionday.com/
#Worldlionday

Let us hope that ALL cats, and not just lions have a viable future in our world.
Here the pride male displays the "flehmen" response, which takes place when one lion, of either sex, sniffs and smells the urine of another, generally to determine chemical content and here it's to determine mating capability/readiness.

Killer silhouette, Marc. Love the raised head with the open mouth. Congrats.

Classic Flehmen response but I wish his feet weren't cut off. I share your hopes for the precarious future of all the cats, Marc but while small minded people think that mounting a stuffed head of a 'trophy' kill is anything other than disgusting, or eating dead animals body parts will make them more virile, then I fear the odds are stacked in the wrong direction.

Thanks Carol,

my fault on the cropped legs, as I do have the full body but posted the wrong version here :( ,
I hear you on the future of cats but trying to put on a brave face. And have seen cat numbers plummet in my 37 years of visiting Africa,
I feel the only hope may lie in small private concessions for the next generations........certainly not ideal for Cheetah.

Wonderful silhouette, with attention to detail of placement of the animal against the sky. Lovely image.

A shame on not posting the full body shot, Marc, I thought you might have one!  You may well be right about the small concessions but that just wouldn't be the 'real' Africa anymore, not for me anyway.  Probably a good thing that we won't be around to see it. :(
