Spent a few weeks in Farmington, NM recently and found a large number of these guys residing in Animas Park right in Farmington. They were very cooperative and would come very close. I bet people are feeding them.

After watching these guys devour leaves that had fallen from trees in the area I bet the trees are glad that prairie dogs can't climb trees. If they could the trees would probably be "leafless" in short order.

Nikon D500 with G2 Tamron 150-600, ISO 800, f6.3, and 1/400.

Thanks for looking. All comments appreciated.

A great low level perspective, and lovely behaviour capture, Bruce. Don't you love the fact that nature provides a clean up operator for just about everything that falls to the ground, although as you say, just as well these guys can't climb trees!

Super low angle and great pose of the Prairie Dog eating the leaf. Nice work!
