[table][tr][td][table][tr][td]On the way home from Nome, I stayed a couple days in Anchorage, specifically to find bears and moose. My friend's "neighborhood" on the outskirts is very wooded, and she sees moose almost every day, including several newborns.
I was overjoyed to find this mom and very young calf  within 15 minutes of starting to hike around.

This little fellow had his own ideas of where he wanted to go, and mom had to regularly nudge him in the right direction.

Unfortunately, I had too much lens, so this is the best I could salvage. I would have preferred to have more choices in cropping from full bodies! This is pretty much full-frame.

MORE unfortunately, this area is not far from where a grizzly killed a hiker a few days later, and badly mauled one of the volunteers searching for him. (Yes, I had anti- bear spray)

Very nice shot Sandy! Too bad you didn't have zoom lens like 200-500mm f/5.6, it would come handy in this case.

Why not just use one lens like 200-500mm f/5.6. I own one and it is very sharp wide open. Best zoom lens I ever own and 4 1/2 stops VR eliminate tripod :-). This way , you only need one lens and the zoom comes handy, just my 2 cents.

I think the crop features the calf beautifully-maybe even better than a full sized "mom". :). Very cute action, nice story about the moose, but egads! Be careful! Bear spray probably wouldn't have been enough for what sounds like a very aggressive bear. Glad you are safe.

I agree that the tighter crop does a great job of emphasizing the story of the stubborn calf. A lovely image.

I like the tight crop as it does emphasize the action as Cindy stated. I give you credit for going out looking for at least moose. Something I'm not brave enough to do.
