Jaguar in a Tree

Jaguars are not known to be particularly arboreal, but this lovely female did not get the memo.  (Pantanal).  This branch is hanging over a river and the jaguar is fixated on a capybara that is swimming nearby.  Alas, the capybara was just out of range so no dramatic leap by the jaguar.

It was pretty dark at this point in the day as the sun was setting but the amazing low light capabilities of the Nikon D4S allowed for a reasonable image, even at 20,000 ISO!

Classic jaguar hunting behaviour if they can find a suitable low hanging branch over the water from which to launch their strike on the unsuspecting prey below. Nicely composed and good capture of this beauty!

Very nice Michael. I love the pose on the tree with a nice stare down below. ISO-20,000...that is insane.
