Common Wombat, Cradle Mountain, Tasmania
Canon 80D, 24-70 at 50mm, iso320, 1/500 f/13

Just returned from a great trip to South Australia and Tasmania.  The Wombats at Cradle Mountain were feeding during the day, and much less skittish than elsewhere, so after some portraits I switched to the wider lens to include the habitat.  Late afternoon the sun finally broke through after a drizzly, gloomy day.  These animals were pretty much constantly head down feeding. I chose to leave the one blade of grass in front of the face.

I like the choice of format here with the inclusion of the habitat and the position in frame of the subject Cindy, but the blade of grass is a bit of a bummer for me. I think you could have afforded to go a tad lower, even with some frames where you have some OOF grass in the FG. Regarding the techs, f/13 I think is a bit high, f/9 and kept the ISO the same to gain more SS. Nice to see something different.

No wonder these little guys are always feeding, they're built like tanks and such characters.  They can run at speeds of 25 miles an hour  and also love to dig burrows, so got to keep their strength up!  :)

I like the wider view as it gives a real sense of their habitat, and the grass in front of the face is entirely a personal choice.

Excellent image of the Wombat in native Australian habitat. Love the layers in the background, including the mountains and sky.

love the way you have composed this Cindy. Been 23 years since I visited Cradle Mountain. Can remember the lodge, and all the Possoms coming down to feed at night. Hope you enjoyed your trip and thanks for the reminder. Like the way you have shown and love those teeth
