Giant Anteater - The Pantanal, Brazil
D7200, 80-400mm @ 360mm, ISO 640, f/7.1, 1/250s

This Giant Anteater allowed us to follow him around for about an hour never even caring that we were there.  he was busy in his quests for stirring up ants.  Shortly after taking this picture when he walked to another site I walked over to this tree in my latest "stupid E.J. trick".  I started photographing him as some nice light started hitting him and suddenly my legs started burning.  I had hundreds of ants up my leg despite having long pants on.  Out of about 100 photos of this Anteater that I took, only about 4 were sharp because my VR failed in the 80-400 lens while shooting this guy.  It would just rack the image hard left and hard right at about 3 cycles per second.  Turning off the VR switch did not stop the behavior.  The lens is at NPS now and needs a new $420 VR unit :(

The Giant Anteater is very large - about 7 feet long and 3 feet high and weighs about 90lb.

Glad you were able to get at least a few sharp images. The light on this is so nice and soft, and the pose is nice. This was one of my favorite subjects in the Pantanal, such interesting creatures.

You really do have some hair raising adventures, and a bummer about the lens problems. I hope the ants in the pants didn't cause any lasting damage.

Lovely clear view of this wonderful subject!
