Photo taken at Laguna Seca Ranch in South Texas last week.
Nikon D7100, 300mm lens, 1.4 TC, 1/1000 sec at F/10, ISO 400. This is the first Horned Lizard I've ever seen to venture out in the open and stand still long enough to get an image. He was at min focus range, so I cropped it a bit tighter to emphasize his prehistoric look. As a kid in South Texas, there was an empty field next to my house and the first thing I would do in the morning would go to the field and catch a "Horny Toad" and carry it around in my pocket all day. Would go back to the field and release it in the afternoon. Fond memories. Sadly their numbers have dwindled because of poison and the pet trade. |
