Not to long ago I had the privilege to photograph some of the most venomous snakes in the world in a studio setting for an educational website.
Forest Cobra Canon 7D w/ 28-85mm lens 1/200 sec @ F8, ISO 100, Canon 550EX speed-lite Subject placed on white background on a raised table. Image was slightly over exposed, then corrected in post processing further washing out the white background. I am pleased with the results considering the potential danger of the photo shoot.
