I know I have been quiet - my apologies. My MBA studies have sort of taken over my free time and much of my family time, so no photography getting done and not much happening on the internet in terms of forums or social media for me.

This is a photo taken last year in Mana Pools - at sunset as an iconic bull was feeding from the winterthorn trees. Sadly it seems this very approachable elephant has been shot by hunters not long after this photo was taken in one of the adjacent concessions.

I cannot imagine that the hunter could have understood that he could have walked right up to Big Vic and placed his rifle against his temple, he was that accepting of humans. No ethical hunter would have considered this a fair hunt - he was also in the prime of his life and not old enough to have been deemed fair take.

A sad situation indeed...

such a shame about that bull Morkel. There are some very weird people out there who have such differing objectives. Such a shame

So senseless Morkel. I am sure that Karma will redress the balance between the prime of life and the dregs of humanity........

How sad and pointless. A wonderful dreamy shot though Morkel.

Nice image, Morkel.
Yes, it is an unfortunate story. Was this situation the result of a guide bringing a short-scheduled" hunter out to get a quick kill of an animal that was known to be easy? Not much of a "sport" hunter!

What a lovely image with the trunk going right up to the sunburst. Really special. So sad the rest of the story though :(

My immediate thought was 'reach for a star' but that matters little as this is a wonderful shot. Superb execution. Thanks for sharing.
