From a beautiful morning with fresh snow and slushy sea ice at Right Whale Bay.  These guys were just coming in to their breeding season and were starting to get huffy so you had to really pay attention to them.  Thankfully not many ashore yet at the end of October.

Hi Cindy, nice regal pose of this big guy and I like the HA, with an almost 'snooty' look towards camera, great whiskers.

Just a thought - but if you get another chance, I would suggest you try metering off the snow just below him, then plus it by 2, as this should provide a better capture overall. In conditions like this often folk are working around EV at zero and wonder why everything looks grey & flat and then try to oped the image and so noise is added and detail begins to get lost sadly. If you have the time try moving the WB to the right and drop the Blue via Saturation. Looking at the larger version you may feel like adding a small Graduate filter on the FG ice if you have LR or PS just for a hint more detail?

Sorry to get a bit 'tech' just fell there is so much potential on this image.  :D

Steve

Thanks for the inputs Steve. I will play with it a bit more for detail. I've left the blue cast on purpose, I looked at it with it corrected and found I preferred the blue- just my taste with cold icy scenes. Appreciate the feedback.

No worries Cindy, I feel it's good to share thoughts, however there is a lot more I know you can get from the image which will take it up IMHO to the next level.

Click on this to see the beautiful detail you got in that wet fur. Got to love the pose and expression - a cross between regal and bashful, and he certainly is a handsome boy, isn't he! I really like this as you have presented it, a beauty Cindy!

A nice and simple composition that shows how handsome he is. Good detail in the fur, too. Steve
