Taken towards the later part of the afternoon, just as the pups began to emerge from the entrance to the den, as the Clan had left some time ago hunting. This den had at least seven pups of various ages. As they emerged the older ones would explore their surroundings whilst the younger ones stayed close by, played and were generally just mischievous with one another. Here one of the pups just watched as the only adult left stood guard keeping an eye on proceedings.

A much maligned species but I have a lot of respect for them and their place in the overall scheme of things.

A lovely image of the pup and baby sitter Steve. I particularly like the different expressions, the innocence of the youngster and the calculating stare of the guardian, processing the available information.

Thanks Carol.

Yes a species very much maligned as you say, very 'Social' and the 'bonding' within the Clan is incredibly strong. Very inquisitive, but I would not like to be on the receiving end of those jaw, pound for pound the strongest in the animal kingdom and for good reason too!!!

A sweet and enticing picture- love the contrast between their expressions. It's very nice to show appreciation for a species and give some insight into their lives and behavior. Thank you.

The most endearing image of hyenas I think I've ever seen.
