Young Jaguar II

Here is another shot of the young male Jaguar that we followed along with his mother for about an hour on our Pantanal, Brazil tour.  This is almost full frame, just a small crop from the left, it was a privilege to be se so close to this magnificent animal.
Canon 1DX II, 300F4 1/2500 F4.5, iso 1250, handheld from boat.

Such a handsome male Nate and the downward slope of the riverbank shows him off beautifully! I find it fascinating that the jaguar has such impressive body mass as opposed to the other big cats in the Panthera group, and especially when compared to the more slender and lighter weight Leopard.

You can really appreciate the size of these cats here- just look at those enormous paws! I'd guess he's got a bit more growing to do. I like the dynamic pose and even light.
