This isn't the next image I would have chosen to show, but on seeing Ron's fine shot, I immediately thought to show how like minded minds come to the same thoughts, albeit I am obviously somewhat behind.  LOL.  Can live with that.  This view may not be to taste, and is only shown for empathy reasons.  On this occasion, this Red Deer was needing to lie low due to the strenuous previous nights activity.

My personal take was to focus on the antlers, and deliberately missing the focus on the head, leaving that obscured and low. The obscurity of the head, for me, plays an important part in the image.

From a good distance away one might think these were branches of a dead tree. I get what you were after and I like the effect.

Now you are talking, Dave!  The beauty of this handsome rack sends a powerful message: "don't trespass in my habitat, or else."  Actually, not being able to see the head allows the mind to wander and to fill in the space with our mind's eye.  So, it definitely works! I love the texture in the antlers and believe it contributes to the success of the image.  Again, beautiful work, and thanks for the echo. :)

Very nice Dave, the rack being the main focal point. I took several shots similar this past Fall.

Very effective and beautifully done Dave! The stark outline of the antlers is more than enough to let us know what lurks beneath, and I love the way they contrast with the surrounding soft grasses. The polished tips on the tines show that he is ready for action as the occasion dictates! Definitely to my tastes.

I love the super-dark antlers and the ivory coloured tips - what wonderful colour in this rack!
