Interesting how animals use so many more senses than us.   This example of the Flehmen response, curling the upper lip, to taste pheromones on the vomeronasal organ, rather interested me as the nearest female (in sight), was 50 m plus.   Some reach!

D500.  150-600 OS Sport Sigma at 1/250 F6.3 at 1000 iso.  The dark marks on the torso are the effects of the previous nights battles...

Classic Flehmen response captured beautifully! I love the pose, soft light and colour tones in this excellent image Dave!

What a handsome stag, Dave!  The pose, with the head up, gives him a noble appearance.  And I love the vegetation on his back and antlers.  A very realistic, natural appearing image. I feel as though I'm out in the field with him.  One of my favorites of your many fine images, Dave. Fantastic!

I love this image. the behavior you described and documented is wonderful. I also like the antler decoration it is wearing.

What a fantastic shot David, the pose with the head up, the profile, the light, the BG, the blurred foliage at the bottom just amazing!

Fantastic David! Whoda' thought we'd be using aftermarket lenses like these to produce these fine images. This is a great lens, even wide open, and with the ability to compose using many different focal lengths - unlike a fixed prime like a 400,500, or 600mm

You're not wrong Mark.  It's my grab first lens now.  (I managed to change the lens foot after this shoot, so am able to put it back on a Gymbal head like the Wimberley now, but even without that, it's plenty sharp and just so versatile, it's a no brainer)...  HERE

Nice work. That'll look great on the wall, imho.
