Taken while kayaking Summit Lake State Park in New Castle Indiana. This little critter first poked its head our from this large rock pile adjacent to a beaver lodge when I was less than ten feet from it. I had to allow the breeze to drift my boat to get with in the minimum focusing distance of my lens.

Great expression and nice details in this little one. I have to wonder though why you framed it so far to the left, cutting off so much of the animal, leaving so much rock to the right? For me the composition feels somewhat unbalanced- although clearly that's a matter of taste :) But what a wonderful opportunity, so lucky to get that close.

You assume that there was more of the animal to work with, perhaps I didn't effectively describe the scene. Unfortunately I did not have much choice but to frame it any other way with only mere seconds to work with, getting my kayak within that minimum focusing distance, and keeping my camera on this subject.

Jason, it looks like you have a lot of pixels to work with. I would love to see this as a tighter crop removing all of the oof foreground and part of the right side. The critter is so well shot!
