Nice shot Mark...looks like the velvet just came off. One day, I will have to go looking for our Oregon meese.

Horrible Chris - people coming in the gallery are reporting not seeing hardly any. Very depressing! I'm going to start going out starting tomorrow and look hard. Hopefully I'll be successful. That darn Winter Tick (and global warming) is taking it's toll. I spoke with Lee Kanter  (Maine F&W moose wildlife biologist) and he told me that of the moose that they collared last year, 73% died from the tick! That's just horrible statistics! Other experts are saying that we may not have a herd in 20 years. :(

Man that's awful.  I heard a similar statistic about the mortality rate with winter tick.  Last winter was a very bad year for ticks in general with it being so mild.  I think a while back I read that the winter tick and moose populations tend to run in cycles.  Hopefully that would suggest that the current low moose population causes the ticks to fade out for a while and let the moose make a come-back.  Considering how adept you are at finding them it is even more telling how bad the situation is.  Huge cause for concern.  :|

Sorry to hear about the declining moose population.

This is a very nice image.
