A single frame from a fabulous sighting we as a family enjoyed in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (Kalahari desert) in January of this year, during one of the worst heat waves to hit Southern Africa (the temperatures reached 50-54 Celcius by 10am and after sunset most days it was still 38-40 Celcius).

This honey badger managed to dig up a small leopard tortoise shortly after sunrise, and had a bit of a challenge getting to the good bits inside. He figured it out in the end.

Techs:
Nikon D4s
Nikkor 400mm f2.8G VR
1.4x teleconverter
f6.3  |  1/800 SS  |  ISO-8000
(being on auto ISO in manual mode I normally don't even look at the ISO - I did change my settings shortly after this frame to a lower SS to drop the ISO I was getting)

This is a beauty. Seems like the light situation was tricky bt the details have come out beautifully.

Love the determination and mood in the framing here mate, like this one even more than your other recent HB  ;)

Agree on the auto ISO dilemma, have been caught out many times with the same issue.

I love this one Morkel, a wonderful study of this ferocious and intelligent species and a great title for his jewel of a prize. Quite unique!
