A Red-handed Howler Monkey (Alouatta belzebul) photographed during a custom tour to Eastern Amazonia last November. This was shot from a platform located 30 meters up on a tree while we waited for a Harpy Eagle to return to its nest. Check the Harpy photo on the Birds Gallery.

Being able to get some height helps so much, with now an eye-level perspective of the subject. Love the saturated colors and richness of this image. Nicely composed, and a good peak of action captured. Well done.

Nice action Octavio, my shots of these are looking up at them with the harsh sunlight breaking through the canopy. Certainly makes a difference when shooting from a platform.

Really an incredible shot. The light is fantastic as it allows for great definition of the black hair. The face definition is terrific.
For me the only problem is that I would never sit on a platform at 3 meters let alone 30.

Outstanding look at those canines. Soft light and good detail in the blacks. Well composed and the pose is just great. Well done.

Really nice work Octavio. It is refreshing to see a canopy species like this from the same point of view in which it lives. Way to nail a peak moment!
