This is such a nice image. I am assuming you selectively went for f2.8 to show the face sharp with a drop off behind. The background is super! Low perspective with straight on view into the eyes puts it over.. Congratulations on a very fine image!

PS: Is this wild?

Forgot to mention: This is captive. I shoot my big cat images at a local sanctuary for big cats here. They have over 175 big cats with their own habitats. They have some that are kept down by a river and you're directly over them on a bridge. You're correct about using the lens wide open to concentrate on the face. I was kneeling on the ground right at this guys eye level. You're able to get right next to these cats literally by just putting your lens through the openings in the fence which are 4" in diameter.

I'll be with Dennis! ;)

Wonderfully done. Love the look; love those whiskers and eye lashes, but the eyes are positively riveting. With that look and that closeness, he seems to be sizing you up as a potential meal.

The sharp face and eye contact are terrific. I really like the effect of the straight on view. This looks like I could reach in and touch this fella. Just beautiful.

Very nice, Harvey! The detail in the face is excellent, and the background goes out of focus just the right amount for me. I like this one alot.

This will always be one of my favourite shots of yours Harvey, what an amazing place that Sanctuary must be to go on a photo shoot! I'd be like a child surrounded by my favourite candy!
