I still don't have a cheetah quite the way I would like, but this is as close as I've come. (Had to post this guy to go with the leopard and hyenas for all the big spotted African predators!) Taken in the Serengeti, 2002. No question about the sharpness, even with the 1.4; in the original you can see the tsetse flies quite clearly and the grass partially in front of his face. Wish I had a bit more room in front (full frame as usual for me) and wish the eyes caught better light but ... Just have to go back and try again!

D60, 100-400, 1.4TC, 1/500, f8, ISO 200.

I think this is an excellent shot. If you look very carefully there is that long horizontal catchlight in the eyes typical of overcast days. I like the light for the subject and would take this over straight sun anyday.. Very sharp, the grass adds alot for me.. I like the size in the frame, just about the right amount of room..No nits here... Well done and thanks for your post here..

Very nice shot Rich. This is a very typical way to see the cheetahs in the field. I like the comp and would not change a thing about this. the grass does not bother me.

I have to agree with Cheryl and Dennis that the framing is fine as is. I also like the grasses around the cat and the even lighting that shows all the detail. Very nice.

Very nice. I like the pose and how attentive he is. They spend a lot of just time watching like this. Just a slight crop from the top and right gives a little more room in front proportionally. Great as is!

Very nice shot Rich, shows just how it is most of the time with these cats as they try to stay out of sight in the long grasses.

Lovely pose and colour tones.

Great composition. I wouldn't change a thing. I am dying to get a cheetah kill in progress, myself. yeah, right! I might wait for decades to get one of those.

WOW. Marvelous details! This animal appears to have caught the scent of a rival. The expression is perfect.
