African Elephant-2 days old
Maasai Mara, Kenya

This shot was taken on my last game driven on my last trip to Kenya. We had gone out hoping to find leopard one more time but instead found 3 elephants-an adult, a sub adult and this little one. It was overcast most of the 2 hours we sat and watched them, with ugly white skies. the other 2 people in my vehicle wanted to go back and pack and I was persisitent in pushing to stay-just a little bit longer. After all, I still had film I had not shot and the sun might yet come out. We watched the larger elephants tearing apart trees and the young one trying to imitate them. Finally when I was beginning to lose my considerable power of persuasion, we got some more light and the baby walked under mom and proceeded to imitate the raised foot. This is one of my favorite shots from this trip to Kenya.

I like the way that you have the baby framed by the mother, showing strength and tenderness all together with good color and detail.
Love it!

This is one of the nicest elephant shots I have ever seen. I can sure see why it's a favorite of yours! I love everything about it! The light, the way the mama's underside follows the baby's shape, the raised LF foot of each, the light...

I didn't notice the baby's raised foot at first; it was the marvelous light and the position of the baby right up against the mother's foot. A very intimate shot - very tough to do with elephants. Definitely one of the best elephant shots I've seen.
