Western Spadefoot toad (Scaphiopus hammondi)
EOS10D, ISO 800, 1/60 @ f32, 24-85 @ 85 with 12mm ext. Flash
This was shot last weekend at about 2:00 am while out looking for snakes & such. I used a single flash and bounced off of white concrete in front of this guy to soften the shadows. Croped a bit of top & left.
Thanks for looking.

Corey,

Now that is one "in your face' toad picture. I like it a lot but would not want to kiss it! Cool shot and thanks for sharing.

I really like shots like this and it also gave me a smile.. Compositionally you did NOT put the toad smack in the middle of the frame which often occurs with shots like this but instead put him over to the left, even removing some of his body to do so.. Interesting choice and I think it works, by decentering the subject.. Thanks for your contribution, its a smile maker for sure!

I brought a smile to my face. Why did you shoot at 800 when you were using flash?

Thank you all for the replies.
Steve, actually I wish I had a good reason for shooting at 800. I jumped out of my truck, helped the little guy off the side of the road & started shooting, forgot that I had it set at 800

Got my morning off with a smile! Excellent use of flash here, and while the eyes and smile are the emphasis, the off-center composition with the tiny flowers make this a really strong shot.
