Arctic Blue Fox - Saint Paul, Alaska
EOS 10D, 500mm, 1.4x, 2x, 1/125, f/16, Fill -1 1/3, ISO 400

While visiting the Pribilof Islands, Dennis O, Karen S, and I borrowed a van and used it as a movable blind to photograph a very active Arctic Blue Fox den in the town of Saint Paul. While these animals were next to impossible to approach on foot, it was a breeze in a vehicle as they are very used to vehicles. We all got many great shots. Here is a young kit taking a rest after being disciplined by mama fox for straying too far from the den.

Extremely cute! I like how the greenery in the background really sets of the dark kit.

This is very close up. Couldn't you find any other pieces of glass to put onto the system? Nice work as always.

Very cute and very impressive. Effective 2240mm at 1/125. Wow! Concur with Heather on the greens nicely complementing the fox. Might have cut a tad at the bottom to remove the dirt and leave only green.

Really, really cute! Could that be you and your gear reflected in the eyes?

Probably not, I was a bit far for that - note this was taken with stacked teleconverters.

Oh, I hadn't looked that closely. If I've done the math correctly and if the 10D has a 1.6 cropping/magnification factor, this was with the equivalent of a 2240 mm lens, right? Mind-boggling that it's this sharp!

Yup, and its sharp at a larger size too. If you stop down some and employ perfect long lens technique, this combination can yield excellent results.

Perfect technique with a long lens and stacked TC's can be elusive. Will post a Q in Photography Topics. Have seen the weepy look on several of these animals. Did you have the impression any of the pups were sick or do you think (or does anyone know?) if that is a developmental characteristic of the pups?
