Common Zebra
Maasai Mara, Kenya

This was taken on my first trip to Kenya during an El Nino season. Everything was VERY green. We had overcast skies and or rain most every day. The driver estimated this zebra was less than a day old.

Nikon N90s with Tamron 200-500 zoom, MF, Provia 100, spot metered on the grass, no comp.

Cute little gaffer!
If that's the look you get in overcast light, I wouldn't complain :)
Well done.

This is classic. The weather pattern provided you with ideal light and a wonderful green background not present in most pix from this region... Once again I reconsider: RF10+ Way to go, mares protective look over the foal says it all.. Thanks for posting ...

Really nice Cheryl. This is obviously not the trip I was on a year later. Unusually green.

Well done! I don't think I've ever seen one that young, even captive.

Great shot Cheryl, the contrast is excellent. Is it me or is it tilted slightly ?

Lovely image of these ponies in pyjamas Cheryl, and good to see them with some good grass for a change. I hated to see the grazing animals feeding on parched dried out grass in the drier parts of Botswana.

Nice one!

Dave, yep it does indeed appear to need a bit of CW rotation to fix the tilt.

Another comment on the weather. The overcast days truly were the best for this type of photography. The even lighting allowed us to shoot pretty much all day without worrying about shadows on faces. The heavy rains were another story and led to a few incidents of roof hatches not being closed fast enough and several occasions of vehicles stuck in the mud. It also meant pushing a fair amount of film as my long lens was a 5.6. But the grass was VERY green evn in Samburu, a semi-arid desert.

I like this a lot. Personally not sure if the need for a rotation isn't an illusion due to the way the grass is but regardless, a very nice photograph.

I'm another vote for a slight rotation, based on the pose of the zebra rather than the grass. The green here though is just wonderful and really makes the zebras stand out - and the shot stand out over the typical zebra pose. I like this one a lot!
