Hello NatureScapers:

While I was at the MN Zoological Gardens last weekend doing some more macro work (sea horse post), I happened to pass by the relatively new Meerkat exhibit. My subject here had climbed up between a couple of rocks and was resting in the early morning sun. I was able to take a few close up shots before he/she got up and went on his/her way. I had hoped for a direct look into the camera but it never happened...This was made through an outdoor plexiglass protected enclosure (ie no flash)..

Thanks for looking and any comments or suggestions..

Excellent shot Dennis. I just love the BG and his expression is just great. The bits of sand on his nose tells its own story....well done. 8)

DEnnis,

Very cool portrait. The BG is great and the head position and eyes give this one a faraway kind of look. I like it!

Dennis,
Very nice shot. The pose and the stare gives the appearance that he is deep in thought. I like the way the background colors compliment the subject. I never would have guessed this was shot through plexiglass. Great job.

WOW...

I like this shot, the background, and the expression on the meerkat's face..I have been a meerkat fan since I saw a Nat Geo show with Mattias Klum when he was photographing meerkats in the wild.

One precious shot was taken by Mr. Klum's assistant, and in that shot, a meerkat had climbed onto Mr. Klum's shoulder to keep a lookout for predators!!!

Cute critters and a great shot!!!

Cheers,

Mark in Austin

Timon from the animated classic, The Lion King, brought a lot of press to these wonderful little animals, which are among my favorites. Great shot!

Very nice! Good light and a complimentary background. The plexiglass must be pretty clean as it didn't much affect the sharpness. Well done!

Dennis,
Another truly fine shot, this time under difficult and unusual circumstances. Special use of background sets it off so well.

Meerkats are one of my all time favourite small guys Dennis. You have really captured the essence of this one to perfection.

Superb shot.

Nice one, Dennis.

Like Mark, I became a meerkat fan after watching the NG show. They're cute critters.

Wonderful, for the reasons previously stated. The detail and the expression are great. (Must be Nikon plexiglass. ;) )
