Bull Moose - Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA
EOS 10D, 500mm, 1/200, f/5.6, ISO 200

This photo was taken very close to the Mount Moran photo I posted yesterday in the Landscape Forum. This was taken the previous afternoon. As I was driving along the Snake River I spotted two male Moose in the water and immediately pulled over and set-up my gear. By the time I got set-up they were very close and coming out of the water so I took this tight shot before switching to a shorter lens.

Nice timing! His face looks like he just noticed you and wonders what you're pointing at him. :)

This has some nice colors everywhere. Like the sun light on the antlers. Were you able to get another frame after this. He does look surprised.

Very nice E.J. The raised front leg really gives this a sense of motion and the exposure is very good. Did you need to make any exposure compensation for the darker moose in front of the brighter green vegetation? Great job getting this quick shot.

E.J.,
This is far better than any moose photos I own. The blending of the background vegetation with the moose was unavoidable. Just out of curiosity, is there a way in PS to blur the brush behind him to make him stand out more?

Nice shot EJ, the greens and golds give this a lift and set off the dark coat of the Moose.

Chris - I shoot just about everything in manual, in this case I knew the exposure from a previous photo I had taken. On the eval meter, this is probably close to a -1/3 compensation.

Joseph - yes that's possible using the blur tool but not something I ever do.

Not sure, I might have had a heart attack to be this close to one of these critters. Nice image. I have seen them in Alaska from a plane and boat but never close enough to photo even with a 500.
