This was actually taken on September 8, because they were testing the light, but it is a reminder of one way that 911 will be remembered today.
The twin beams reach up to four miles into the sky and are comprised of eighty-eight 7,000-watt xenon lightbulbs positioned into two 48-foot squares, echoing the shape and orientation of the Twin Towers. The installation can also be viewed from a 60-mile radius around lower Manhattan.

By the way, this light apparently attracts and confuses migrating birds and other creatures, so at some point it is turned off for 20 minutes to "release" them.

The UFO-like dots in the sky are actually approaching airplanes.

TFS, Carol. :D  I haven't been to New York for 30+ years. What a sight...what a busy, noisy, exciting place. But it was lovely along the Hudson River, and I was grateful to see this preview.

Its many years since I was in New York - and that was it as far as I'm concerned......  I hate big cities!  The huge buildings, crowds, noise, hustle and bustle, polluted air, etc., etc.,....... give me the open country any day!!

We went to New York in 2014, loved it, but wouldn't want to live there. What a sad day, one of those days that is etched into everyone's memory.
