Captured December 31, 2003. Canon 10D, 17-40 f/4 @17mm, 1/500 sec., f/11, ISO: 200

This image is stitched together from two shots .. I did not work on correcting the distortion of the lines in the square.

From high in the cathedral ... not possible after the 2010/2011 earthquakes.

I think there are plans to rebuild it but am not sure if they are going forward.

Here's the larger image:

Here's the cathedral at the time these images were created:

That's an amazing view= looks great in the larger version. I am curious about the flower-like structure (sculptures?) on the left. So much to look at here-I really get a sense of the area and the architecture. Sad to hear about the cathedral...I hope it gets rebuilt. Do you have a picture of it too?

Thanks Cynthia.

I've just inserted two images from that day showing the cathedral and the opening from which I believe I took the shots.

I'm sorry I just don't remember anything about the sculpture-like structure(s).

What a beautiful cathedral. I like the second picture with the bird flying by.

This calm scene gives no indication of the devastation to come with the earthquake, Mike! As for that sculpture, I believe its called 'The Chalice' which I suppose relates to it being near the cathedral.
