Once upon a time Castelluccio di Norcia...
a small village located in Umbria, in central Italy,
famous for the production of typical products of the area
such as cheeses, meats, legumes and cereals.
Famous for the cultivation of the typical lentil in its splendid plains
which in June and July are the destination of many photographers
ready to capture the magnificent blooms of crops
(some respectful of the harvest and others not...).
The Castelluccio lentil is famous for its particular taste
and particularly small size, in fact, it does not require soaking before cooking.
Delicious cooked boiled, in salad accompanied by cherry tomatoes,
parsley and spring onions.

In 2016 Castelluccio was completely destroyed by the earthquake,
but it is so sad to see how no authority wanted to help
the inhabitants to rebuild the small village,
today Castelluccio remains like as in the day of earthquake...

Wonderful image and great info Mary! Makes you want to go there and after enjoying the vista, do some quick or maybe, a lengthy spell of grocery shopping to enjoy those marvellous treats.
Make your life spectacular!

A sad story indeed, Mary, and a beautiful photo to illustrate it. The landscape is breath-taking! I am wondering if the village did get rebuilt...I assume this photo was taken before it was destroyed?

How sad that such a productive community was destroyed, and not rebuilt, Mary! Such a pretty little village and setting - and that selection of food treats sounds so good!

Beautiful image Mary! Love the black and white treatment. Sad to hear that the town has not been rebuilt. Perhaps some day.

A lovely setting enhanced by the monochrome conversion. The lentils sound delicious. Hope the village can be rebuilt someday. Very nicely presented, Mary!
