We live on Penang Island in Malaysia and look out on the Strait of Malacca, which incidentally has the highest density of pirate attacks globally. A lot of thunderclouds form over the warm mainland and we get a number of thunderstorms.
Here is one lightning strike captured. This area is quite smoky and there is a variety of colours apparent when the lightning is nearer ground level.
I selected a cloud with frequent emissions and used the following
Canon EOS1DX Mk3, ISO 400, Canon 28-300mm lens locked at 70mm, f8, 6 seconds. Another exposure starts when one ends

I sue the same technique for fireworks.

Awesome !! In addition to the lightning itself, the contrast in the clouds in the upper half of the shot is really terrific. I've always been attracted to good images of the power of storms and this one is one of the best I've seen in a long time. Great image.

Very impressive image! The colors and textures are great. Love the clouds.

I'm moving it to Travel and Culture due to all of the city lights but it's definitely worthy of an Editor's Pick :)

The exposure was six seconds. There are multiple rapid flashes in that time and they are not all exactly in the same place hence the main bolt could be 5-6 discharges.
Thanks for your comment
