the black church on the snaefellsnes peninsula in iceland.  the original black church that sat in this spot was demolished awhile back as the congregation declined.  the current structure was rebuilt in the 1980s.

i visited the church with this shot in mind early on in my trip last september.  the sky wasn't cooperating and i got a shot of the church from the other side of the building with some clouds overhead that could be best described as meh.  i was lucky to have some extra time at the end of my trip and decided to hit the snaefellsnes peninsula again.  this time the clouds were great and i got the shot i was hoping for.

Great clouds! Glad you went back-they really accent the pretty church, and I like the background setting as well, for context. Looks quite desolte-hard to imagine going to church there.

Well worth your second visit. I love the tonal quality you have caught here, and the almost 3D effect of the little church popping from the background under that wonderful sky. Beautiful mood. Well done!

I think we are all glad you went back for another shot - the lighting and color tones make this a striking scene!
