Back in 2003 (in January or February) I began making plans to do the Milford Track. My secondary excuse to myself for spending a lot of money from my meager bank account was to pay a visit to my aunt and cousin whom I'd not seen since I was a child - early 1950's. I used a travel agent and am glad I did since I'm not very good at organizing.

This image is one view of many that change radically over the course of the four days/three nights one spends on that trail and it is one that brings back memories of the majesty of the "southern Alps" region of the south island of New Zealand. This particular shot is from December 29, 2003.

Sometimes it's these types of images that only reveal their significance until many years later. Looks like an inviting place to hike.

I wonder what it looks like now, Mike. I was just reading a report that 120,000 people walked the trail in 2017 and its being over run - I can only think that the figures for 2018 and 2019 were even more. Your image looks so serene back in 2003, I think that perhaps you went at the right time.

An inviting path in many ways, yet it also looks quite formidable, at least as to where it is going. Glad you got to make the trip-sounds like it was a wonderful one.
