The only Roman gate that survives north of the Alps, the archway and gate were completed in AD 179 and used as intended, as a portal from the Roman camp to the Danube, until 932 when it 'disappeared' into the mists of the middle ages.  It was 'rediscovered' during renovations in Regensberg in 1855, and restored in 2017.
