A combination of 15 light painted images plus the original background image of the stars.

Background shot at ISO 2500 @ f2.8, 24 mm, WB 3500k, 20sec.
All other layers shot at ISO 500, F5.6, 24mm, WB 3500k, 20sec.

Nikon D750 with Nikon 24-70 f2.8 lens.

There was light pollution to the left of the image from 24hour rail works that has now finished so when the moon is right I will try a reshot with my Nikon 20mm f1.8 lens.

This looks appropriately eerie. It's always fun to experiment with these techniques-your light painting seems to have worked quite well on the machine. I think if you try this again you might want to bring out the stars more, and perhaps some more detail in the field. I gather this is a rusty old machine? Perhaps another angle on it might also improve the composition by allowing the trees behind it to show up better?

Cindy has covered all the points I was thinking, and more, Kim. I do find the machine a little overpowering - but that's just my two cents worth.

Thanks for the comments.

This is a very small version of the original which has much more light and detail. The stars are bright in the original. There is a barb wire fence close to the digger running behind it and the tress are in the next field so that leaves little room for other compositions taking into account the direction of the main body of stars.

This type of image is a different genre to astrophotography and the foreground objects are meant to dominate.
