In "travel & culture", I could post images of grand cathedrals and the big sights from my travels, but I think I prefer a more intimate shot for now...

This is at Val Sans Retour in Bretagne, France.  This particular part of Bretagne ties itself to the Arthurian legends.  This trail has various artificial features for the Arthurian tourists.  I hadn't noticed going up the trail that the pond (called "Le miroir aux fées" -- the fairies mirror) was manmade, but on the way down, I saw that it had been formed behind a very old dam. Looking around a bit more, I found this, which I presume is the part of the old mill's drive mechanism.

I like this intimate view-just a remnant of the past-always a bit mysterious and fodder for the imagination. There are similar structures, half-buried, in New England, but often without a telling factor such as the drive mechanism. Great story!

A tantalising view, Paul - it makes me want to dig in those leaves to see what else is buried!
