While standing under the cover of the pavilion, with a long exposure I was able to capture a few lightning strikes. What blew me away, when I later looked on my monitor, were the people standing on the end of the pier in all that lightning!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! This si so cool. Wouldn't have even noticed the people had you not mentioned them. I think to make this even better, selecting just the water and softening it just a tiny bit would draw less attention away from the spectacle of the rest of the image.

Wow - o wow! I didn't notice the people either. The clouds look ominous. This is really terrific!

Very dramatic image with the lightning and Grand Haven pier. Not surprised people are out on the pier even though the lightning is quite a ways out - it is going to move closer real soon. This is in my neck of the woods and I've seen and heard of folks out on the pier when the waves are crashing on it and the splash tall enough to cover the lighthouse at the end. They end up in the water with wet clothes and regret. Lake Michigan is like an inland ocean and needs to be respected.

That's a great suggestion, E.J.!  I'm guessing the lightning flashes did just that and acted like a flash on the water. With multiple flashes it made the water kind of crunchy, so your idea is a good one.
