Steptoe Butte - The Palouse, Washington
P1 XF-IQ3100, 150mm (x2 frames), ISO 100, f/8, 1/8s This shot is taken from atop Steptoe Butte looking towards the southeast at sunrise. It consists of two horizontal 150mm frames, which is about 100mm in full frame 35mm camera terms. The overlap between frames is about 50%. Due to the large sensor, the horizontal crop factor is around 0.67x... In an earlier post I relayed the story of a stupid workshop trespassing incident in a dangerous area. In the case of this shot, the area is set along a road at a mountain top that has a guard rail that photographers line up behind to take their overview shots of the area. On the other side of the road is ample parking for at least 20 cars. On this particular morning, there were initially just 4 vehicles. Along comes a workshop with 7 total vehicles in a caravan. The leader decides to park against the guardrail, not on the other side of the road as is clearly what is done here. The other 6 vehicles then park nose to tail along the guardrail leaving about 5 feet between each vehicle, thereby taking up the vast majority of the shooting positions for this area with cars. Of course the workshop participants get out and take up the space between the cars effectively making the area largely unshootable for anyone that isn't in the workshop. Again, it is very clear that the parking for this popular area is clearly on the other side of the road - the opposite side of the guard rail with the overlook. It is workshop leaders like this that give photographers and photo workshops a bad name... Argh!!!! E.J. Peiker http://www.EJPhoto.com
