A trash can, a parking meter and a vandalized bicycle tell a story about life in a big city.

Height-Ashbury District, San Francisco, last Saturday morning.

Nicely composed city-scape -- the bike is certainly thoroughly stripped.

Personally, I would never display anything of value (like a camera) in the Height day or night, people have been killed there for their sneakers. So for me, the image is mostly a tribute to your luck.

I get that reaction a lot when I show night pictures that I took in big cities. However, I have been taking those for more than 25 years, mostly in Los Angeles (including East Los Angeles), and don't have a single horror story to share. And the only precaution I take is to limit this activity to the time between 4 am and one hour past sunrise.

On this particular shoot I actually did get hit up. By a young man with an old car that needed a jump start. I provided. It was a '54 Chevy. Same vintage as Jens. :)
