Skelig Michael - Ireland
a7R Mk II, 16-35mm @ 16mm, ISO 100, f/11, 1/25s

Skelig Michael and Small Skellig which you an see in the midground are two islands off of the southwestern coast of Ireland (seen in the distance).  This island, besides being home to a number of species of birds (including Puffins, Razerbills, Gannets), is the home of an ancient monastery founded around the 7th century and abandoned in the 12 century.  The monastery is near the top of the island and one must climb a set of about 700 steps to reach it's 600 foot elevation.

This is the location where Luke Skywalker was found in the latest Star Wars movie.

From this angle I imagine those stairs going off screen, around and back again from the top ... very nice composition.

Nice shot and interesting background. Maybe it was abandoned because the monks ran out of rocks? ;)

Great composition, love the combination of land and sea, as well as the grays, greens and blues that makes a nice combination of inert rocks and living ocean and grounds!
